#SERIOUS SAM ENEMIES SERIES#
The series has always been about fighting hordes of enemies, but this one really cranks things up to 11. It’s familiar but bigger, faster and more ridiculous than before. If you’ve played another game in the series, you’ll get a general idea of what to expect Serious Sam 4. Which is good, although it’s a little odd that the story hasn’t moved on for Sam after 15 whole years. The overall story here has almost nothing to do with the franchise as a whole. It’s not uncommon to hear them bickering over the proper deployment of a single line, and their relentless use of sneaky and sarcastic remarks fit perfectly into the ridiculous chaos that occurs almost anytime. The characters are cliché but their voice actors do a good job and their jokes are adorably silly, even though Sam’s voice sounds a bit after all this time. The vast majority of the dialogue is meant to be funny and, although the game is infinitely stupid, it very often succeeds in its attempts at humor. Fortunately, the harshness of this game is gone. Serious Sam 4 features slightly earlier versions of the characters from the third game and also emphasizes their military attire. a Russian priest who knows where to find the Holy Grail. After a few minutes (or seconds, if you manage to get yourself killed immediately), the story returns to the beginning, with Sam and the other members of the Alien Artifact Acquisition team moving via a convoy to Rome in an attempt to meet. Hundreds of enemies fill the screen with a hail of gunfire, which is quite a sight to see. The game begins at the very end, with Sam leading the charge against Mental’s forces in Tunguska.

But it takes place in a slightly different timeline than the third game, which isn’t a spoil because it really doesn’t matter. With it, Croteam has created the most powerful game in the series that fans will probably enjoy very much, whatever game they prefer.Īlthough it is billed as the fourth game in the series, Serious Sam 4 is actually a prequel to the third game, which was a prequel to the first game. Serious Sam 4 successfully brings back much of what people wanted to start with while also updating various aspects of subsequent entries. While the franchise’s early entries were popular with fans, many were put off by the cartoonish direction of the second game and the FPS-like military accent offered by the third game.
